In a rural, countryside setting, just outside of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Morey Montessori Public School Academy is more than a school, it’s a family.

Parents are deeply involved not only in the school but the community as a whole. As a public school academy, Morey Montessori balances the rigor of the state curriculum with the method of Maria Montessori teachings in order to provide a truly unique learning environment for their students.

Families come to Morey Montessori so their children can have an individualized, hands-on approach to learning. They recognize the benefits of a Montessori education beginning in preschool and continuing to build independence through the eighth grade and beyond. These offerings are the only of its kind available within the Mt. Pleasant area, and one that families are willing to travel to. Parents choose Morey Montessori because they know it’s the best.

Morey Montessori Initiatives

Morey Montessori Public School Academy provides its students with additional opportunities to grow both academically and personally. These initiatives allow students to think outside of the regular curriculum and expand their frame of reference, opening their minds to life beyond Morey Montessori.

Character Choices Program
The Montessori education all Morey Montessori students receive stresses the importance of independence, critical thinking, and intrinsic motivation. These qualities, along with those learned through the Character Choices Program, mold Morey Montessori students into individuals ready to take on the rigor and demands of a college education.

IGNITE
Morey Montessori is unique in that they offer the IGNITE Program and Service Learning Trip to their students. The IGNITE Program allows the student body to spend two weeks out-of-the-year in elective courses designed to engage their interests and ignite a love of learning! During these weeks, students learn alongside peers of different ages with similar interests.

Service Learning
The Service Learning Trip allows middle school students to travel across the country in order to learn through hands-on experiences about important environmental topics. For most of these students, this is their first experience outside of Michigan – one which shapes their independence and aspirations for their futures!

Leadership Council
This year, Morey Montessori is excited to introduce a student elected Leadership Council. Leadership Council allows student voices to create initiatives and help make decisions for the student body! Already this year, the Leadership Council has shown great volunteerism, leadership in the Character Choices Program, and initiative toward improving the school garden.

Community Building
The sense of community among Morey Montessori students, teachers, and parents begins in the Montessori classroom. Here, students of different ages and ability levels interact as both learners and teachers to help each other grow. In addition, students frequently meet together with older students who offer guidance and leadership to the younger students. This sense of community has been strengthened by the commitment and involvement of a strong Parent Teacher Organization. This group of parents has provided extracurricular opportunities for students and families as well as raised funds to make community experiences possible for Morey students!

Growth
Morey Montessori is growing! This year, Morey added a second kindergarten classroom and continuously have full preschool classes. This growth is a positive affirmation for Morey Montessori and the community, proving that the education provided is truly unique and beneficial.

As Morey Montessori Public School Academy continues to grow, flourish, and foster the love of learning amongst their students, they continue to make an impact in education.

How Morey educators motivate their students…

What keeps your students aiming for success in the classroom?

A lot of learning in the classroom is self-guided and I find this allows students to be successful in learning. Lessons are connected to their lives and the students prioritize their own work for the day. Students are also motivated to be successful in the classroom by being able to participate in special activities, such as our Service Learning Trip.
